Applying statistical mechanics to football

Imagine a state vector representing a microstate. For example R=(q1,q2, …;p1,p2,…)

Now you could imagine two football teams playing as a ‘gas’. Plot their positions and speeds in a state space. Now do this for as much games as possible and try to see if you can find statistical correlations between states (or paths in state space) and probability of goal. You would also need a special vector for the football

I wonder if this data is avalaible somewhere
