Pulsating Rainbow?!

Most likely someone is rotating a polarizer in front of the camera.

Hipster take on it.

Something with Brewster’s Angle and internal reflection. If someone gets it let me know!

Good explanation of the Brewster’s Angle: https://www.quora.com/Why-is-reflected-light-in-mirrors-glass-and-water-polarized-horizontally

How light is polarized.

Cavitation

Look at this mesmerizing GIF:

gxscrog

This cracking the bottom of a glassbottle by slamming the top very hard. What happens?

  1. You slam the bottle hard, accelerating the whole glass bottle downward
  2. The Inertia of the water inside the glass bottle causes the lag of acceleration of the water. In otherwords the water doesn’t accelerate as quickly as the glass bottle containing it. The water will be moving upward relative to the bottle.
  3. Since all of the water is moving upward relative to the bottle, a ‘vacuum’ arises at the bottom. There is no air nearby to fill up this new volume.
  4. There will be an immense pressure difference over the bottom of the glass. The atmosphere is trying to get into that vacuum. The water also feels a greater accelerating force
  5. The atmosphere breaks the glass bottle open.
  6. The water is also accelerating very quickly towards the bottom.

Note: It is not a real vacuum, it is filled with water vapor.

I do not know what actually breaks the bottle. The atmosphere or the water?

I found these pictures on the internet to maybe explain it better.

Maybe these ‘jets’ cause the breaking of the glass.

This cavitation has interesting applications and occurrences at different parts in Nature. I hope to make a post about that as well.

The three big religions worship the same God.

Since Jesus was a Jew, Christianity has the same ‘God’ as Judaism.

Since Mohammed first thought he was a prophet for the Jews, who said that he wasn’t holy, Islam also worships the same ‘God’ as Judaism.

Notably Judaism consists of the Old Testament, Christianity consists of the old Testament and the New Testament. And the Islam is the Old Testament, New Testament and the Qu’ran.

This means that the picture below is completely accurate and to the point whenever there was a religious war between these religions.

Emfysema and pleural effusions

Pleural effusions reduces compliance, because water wants to stick together. They also reduce lung volumes.

Emfysema has increased compliance and higher residual volumes. Hyperinflation is the result.

Would pleural effusions with no serious cause (e.g. CHF) be actually helpful in patients with emfysema? Lungcompliance and volumes could be decreased.

It sounds weird.

Physics discoveries.

It blows my mind that we discovered spacetime curvature before antibiotics.

Or that we discovered that light speed is constant with respect to inertial frames before making cars.

It also blows my mind that special relativity lead to the understanding of at bombs and the inner workings of stars.

Some lung therapy thoughts.

1. Most lungrecoil is determined by surface tension (2/3)

2. Lungrecoil is inadequate in COPD

3. Surfactant reduces lungrecoil.

4. Reduce surfactant in COPD-lungs and improve their recoil and thus alveolar ventilation. Reduce hyperinflation.

Where does it go wrong?

Another one:

1. Acidic blood can take up less oxygen

2. Adding bicarbonate to blood reduces the acidity.

3. There exist bicarbonate inhalers.

4. Give bicarbonate inhalers to COPD patients to enhance oxygen uptake. No systemic effect!

Utilizing the Bohr-effect in Hypoxemia

In more acid blood, hemoglobin can bind less oxygen. In more alkaline blood, hemoglobin can bind MORE oxygen. This is called the Bohr-effect, and it is one of ways hemoglobin changes its binding strength. You can read more about it here.

What if you use this effect? You make lung blood less acidic, so it binds to oxygen better. In this way you increase the uptake of oxygen in the lungs. You can easily administer alkaline materials by inhalations, for example bicarbonate inhalers. I would guess that lung disease will usually result in more acidic lungcirculation.

By the way, the guy who discovered the Bohr-effect was the dad of the famous Niels Bohr. Must be such a cool family. The children were also notably good soccer players.

Infinity implies twin aliens!

So the usual question is: ‘Is there other life in the universe, possibly intelligent?’. Thinking about the insane number of stars in galaxies and galaxies in the universe I think there is most likely other life in the universe. The ‘Fermi Paradox’ then arises. My post is not about other life in the universe or the ‘Fermi paradox’, even though it is very interesting.

My post is about something far weirder. What if there is not only other intelligent life in the universe, but also an infinite supply of exact copies of that life in the universe! Exact copies of me, of you, of Hitler all around us in space and time. What the fuck? This sounds ridiculous, but hear me out.

monkey-typing
‘Sup

My inspiration comes from the classic endless typing monkey. If a monkey types infinite time on a typewriter, he will most certainly write Shakespeare, harry potter and the bible. It is ridiculously mindblowing, but this just logically arises from the fact of combining random chance with infinite time. Anything that can happen, will happen. Murphy’s law to the fullest. Combining random chance with infinity makes everything possible. Let’s keep that thought in mind.

endless-road-11-04

Space is infinite + Random chance = Multiple Me’s in this universe:

If space is infinite, would this immediately imply that there is another version of me somewhere in the universe? Since I most certainly happened, there is a non-zero chance of me arising in this universe. If there is infinite space, it is highly likely that the events that led up to me could also have happened anywhere else. A similar star, similar earth, moon, continents etcetera. Just like the monkey.

I regard my life as purely determined by chance (evolution and such). If you have infinite space, then surely just like a monkey can type Shakespeare, somewhere there is a me typing an exact copy of this blog. This is crazy, but I can’t think of an objection. The only objection is that it is not falsifiable, making the statement plausible but not scientific.

So not only are there aliens out there, some of them are copies of you!

Time is infinite + Random chance = Multiple Me’s in the past and the future:

In the same sense, if time is infinite, would this immediately imply that there is another version of me in the past and future?

If Spacetime is infinite, am I surrounded by my own clones?

Comparison with the Many-World Theory:

For the people familiar with the many-worlds interpretion of quantum mechanics that is used way too much in popsience. It basically solves the ‘Schrodinger’s cat paradox’ by saying that worldlines diverge and that somewhere else these alternate realities actually exist. I dislike it because it is literally not falsifiable per definition.

But looking at the above situation, the infinite parallel events are exactly true. Only a separated by a lot of, but finite, space time!
