My guess for connection between quantum mechanics and general relativity is statistical. Since general relativity is basically thermodynamics which is just statistics and quantum mechanics is basically just probability all over the place and thus statistics there must be a connection between them. It is also the biggest difference between mathematics and physics, physics is just statistics.
